Which course to choose? The different schemes RYA Training for
Motorboats is divided into Powerboating and Motorcruising. Although there is no clear dividing line between these two schemes, generally the Powerboating Scheme is aimed at smaller boats such as RIBs
& sportboats, which are generally under 10m length and most often with single engine. The Motor Cruising Scheme is aimed at coastal and offshore cruising mostly on twin engine boats
between 10m and 24m. Therefore, in order to find the right course for your needs it should be aimed at the sort of boat you are driving or planing to drive. Experience & crew training
The next thing you have to assess is your level of experience. If you have some experience already, you dont need to start at the beginning, just pick a course at the right level for you. When
choosing your course, dont just think about skippering the boat. Consider who will be boating with you, and whether they need training as well. Life on board is much safer and more enjoyable if they
understand what you are doing, how they can help you best and in an emergency are even able to step in and bring the boat home safely. Theory courses Theory courses and additional
one-day courses complete your knowledge and understanding of the sport. ICC (International Certificate of Competence) If you are looking for your ICC (International Certificate of
Competence), which is your boat driving license abroad, you also have to divide between Powerboating and Motorcruising. For Powerboats the Powerboat Level 2-course qualifies you for an ICC up to 10m
and for Motorcruising you need the Day Skipper Practical Course as a minimum qualification to be eligible for an ICC. Experienced boaters also have the possibility to go directly for an assessment or
a shortened course. School Boat or Own Boat Courses are run on school boats as well as on own boats. The Powerboat Courses are taught on our Regal 2460 and Motorcruising Courses are
taking place on our Fairline Targa 43, Sealine F33 or Hi Star 48. We also teach on your own boat. For this the boat needs a minimum of safety equipment on board. If you are not sure about that,
please contact us and we can supply the necessary equipment.
If you are in doubt, please contact us and we will guide you through the various possibilties.
